"No Wok Hei!" Popular Food TikToker Reviews Uncle Roger's Restaurant, Says the Food Is Just "Average"

Many Malaysians have eagerly awaited the opening of Uncle Roger's restaurant in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Since its launch, however, the establishment has received mixed reactions from netizens and food enthusiasts who have sampled its dishes. The restaurant, founded by the internet's favorite comedic food critic Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng), had high expectations to meet, given the character's viral online presence and bold culinary opinions.

Among those intrigued by the restaurant's reception was popular food influencer Jason (@scaredtodie), known for his candid and unfiltered reviews. Determined to experience the hype himself, Jason's visit to Uncle Rogers restaurant quickly garnered the attention of online users.

In his latest video, Jason takes viewers on a journey, beginning outside the restaurant where he found a line of eager patrons already forming at 9:55 a.m.

Jason's goal was simple: to try the much-talked-about dishes and assess whether the restaurant was worth the buzz and its prices. First up on his list was a drink, reportedly one of Uncle Roger's personal favorites, priced at RM 10.90. Sipping the beverage, Jason commented on its distinct flavor but quickly noted that it bore a strong resemblance to bottled drinks found in local convenience stores, making it not worth the price.

Next, he also tried Egg Fried Rice, priced over RM 30, and commented that it tasted similar to other Chinese restaurants, making the price seem too high.

Jason's review aligned with sentiments already circulating online, where many netizens expressed concerns over the high prices.

Adding to the controversy, there were whispers that Uncle Rogers's team had been deleting negative reviews on Google. This sparked a debate, with some suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to maintain the restaurant's image. Uncle Roger, however, claimed that any missing reviews were due to a technical issue, not intentional censorship.

In the end, Jason's experience with the restaurant seemed to confirm what many had suspected: the food, though decent, didn't quite live up to the viral hype. As the buzz continues, it remains to be seen if Uncle Rogers's restaurant can weather the mixed feedback and adjust to meet the high expectations of food lovers in Kuala Lumpur.
