ICYMI: Netflix Drops The Trailer For Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio & Its Soulfully Beautiful!
Disneys live-action Pinocchio wasn't met with the best reviews, and now Guillermo del Toro is coming up to bat with his take on the boy puppet. Thanks to Netflix's TUDUM 2022, we have a behind-the-scenes look at the making of del Toro's stop-motion take.
"Pinocchio is a tale that has lived through the centuries; a fable very close to my heart," says del Toro. "We are very sure that this incarnation is a particularly beautiful one."
While the Disney adaptations have tried their best to emulate the original animations, del Toro promises to have a completely different take with this version, giving the story new elements like Geppetto actually grieving the loss of his son, and Pinocchio being wanted for the Italian military.
Del Toro even suggests that the story could have different implications when it comes to what is a 'real boy,' so I'm eager to see that artsy take on the tale, especially since it's the Disney version of the story that he been so prevalent over the years.
Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents the classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This whimsical, stop-motion film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson follows the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.
Guillermo del Toros Pinocchio comes to Netflix this December.
