A harrowing incident unfolded near Manjalara in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, as a driver faced a frightening ordeal when his car was unexpectedly hit and overturned by a reversing lorry at a local gas station.

The incident, taking place on Wednesday, was captured by a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera stationed at the gas station, revealing the unfolding events.

The victim, driving a Honda City, was initially observed waiting to exit the gas station onto the main road. However, the tranquility turned into chaos when a lorry at the station abruptly reversed, colliding forcefully with the back of the victim's vehicle.

The investigation into the incident indicated that the lorry driver, transporting iron goods, failed to properly engage the handbrake while parking, leading to this regrettable collision.

Assistant Commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Salleh, Chief of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), detailed that the accident between the two vehicles occurred precisely at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

As per investigations, the lorry had been positioned at a fuel pump for refueling, with the 52-year-old local lorry driver stepping away from the vehicle to make a payment at the counter.

During this time, the lorry unexpectedly reversed, impacting the stationary Honda City at the gas station's junction, intending to merge onto the main road, Sarifudin stated in his official statement.

Fortunately, despite the intense collision, Sarifudin confirmed that neither the drivers nor any members of the public sustained any injuries as a result of this alarming incident.

The case has been categorized under Rule 14(1) LN 165/59, attributed to the failure in properly engaging the handbrake.
