Apple has just rolled out the second iOS 18.4 beta, bringing a fresh set of Unicode 16.0 emojis to iPhone users. Among the nine new additions, a few stand out not just for their design but for the quirky ways they might be used in everyday chats.
One emoji that's already getting attention is Face with Bags Under Eyes, a painfully relatable symbol for anyone running on little sleep. Whether you're burning the midnight oil or recovering from an all-nighter, this might just become your new go-to emoji.
Then there's Fingerprint, which could be useful for conversations about security, identity, or if you have a detective streak solving a mystery. Meanwhile, Splatter adds a creative touch, perfect for describing a mess, art projects, or even dramatic cooking fails.
On the nature front, we have Root Vegetable and Leafless Tree, which might spice up your farmers market updates or add a touch of seasonal melancholy to your texts. And music lovers can finally enjoy the Harp, a long-awaited addition for classical music fans.
Surprisingly, this update also includes a flag for Sark, a tiny island in the English Channel. This is a rare case, as Unicode stopped accepting new flag proposals in 2022. However, Sark secured its own ISO 3166 code, making it eligible for an official emoji.
In addition to the new emojis, Apple has also redesigned the Syrian flag emoji to reflect the country's current de facto flag.
Though these emojis are now available in the beta, they haven't been categorized into Apple's emoji keyboard yet. However, users can still find them using the emoji search function.
The final release of iOS 18.4 is expected in late March or early April, bringing these emojis to all users. Until then, early adopters can start testing them out because, let's be honest, who doesn't need a sleep-deprived emoji?
