BEWARE: Maybank Warns of Fake FB Accounts Pretending To Be Them As Possible Scammers

28-Jul-2023
By Ayunie

In a recent announcement, Maybank Malaysia has alerted its valued customers about a concerning issue regarding fake Facebook accounts impersonating the bank's Customer Service. The bank has issued a strong warning against responding to these fraudulent accounts, emphasizing the potential threat they pose. As Maybank takes proactive measures to ensure the security of its customers, it urges everyone to only communicate with the official Maybank accounts on various social media platforms.

The rise of online banking and digital transactions has led to an increase in cybercrimes and scams, with fraudsters using sophisticated tactics to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

In regards to that, the announcement clearly states that Maybank's official Customer Care representatives will never ask for sensitive information, such as usernames and passwords, nor will they share suspicious links for customers to click on. These precautionary measures are in place to safeguard customers from falling victim to phishing attempts and identity theft, which have become increasingly prevalent in the digital landscape.

In light of the #MBBAlert, Maybank customers are strongly advised to exercise caution while interacting on social media platforms. It is crucial to verify the authenticity of any communication they receive, especially if it appears to be from Maybank's Customer Service. Customers should only engage with the bank through its official and verified accounts on Facebook (@Maybank), Twitter (@MyMaybank), and Instagram (@mymaybank).

To further protect themselves against potential scams, customers are encouraged to remember the following essential tips:

1. Be Skeptical: Always be cautious of unsolicited messages or requests for personal information. Legitimate institutions, including Maybank, will not ask for sensitive details via social media platforms.

2. Double-Check Account Names: Before responding to any message claiming to be from Maybank, verify that the account name matches the official ones mentioned in the #MBBAlert.

3. Report Suspected Accounts: If customers encounter suspicious accounts impersonating Maybank's Customer Service, they should report them immediately to the respective social media platforms.

4. Secure Your Passwords: Never share your login credentials with anyone, whether via social media, email, or phone.

5. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Activate 2FA wherever possible to add an extra layer of security to your accounts.

6. Stay Informed: Keep yourself updated on the latest security advisories and announcements from Maybank through their official website and other trusted sources.

By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, customers can better protect themselves from falling victim to online scams and maintain a secure banking environment.
