A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning at kilometer (KM) 14 of the Iskandar Sultan Highway, where an elderly man was fatally struck by a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) while recording a video of a prior accident.
Johor Bahru Utara Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, confirmed that the accident happened around 6:40 a.m. The victim, a 68-year-old local man, was hit by a Perodua Alza driven by a 40-year-old local man.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the Perodua Alza was traveling from Jalan Prisma towards Johor Bahru when the driver attempted to avoid a Honda CR-V that had skidded and collided with the concrete divider. The evasive maneuver caused the Perodua Alza to lose control and veer off course, ultimately hitting the elderly man.
The impact of the collision caused severe head injuries to the victim, who was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) but was pronounced dead during treatment. The driver of the Perodua Alza also sustained injuries to several parts of his body.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving," stated Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh in a press release.
