A Malaysian man, Muhammad Syauqi recently revealed in his Facebook post on how he took the train from Perlis to China for less than RM600.

After departing Arau, Perlis, Syauqi made several stops en route to Kunming, China, which was his ultimate goal. Here is an overview of Syauqi's journeys and stops. Suffice it to say, the man saw and experienced a great deal over his whole adventure.

Arau-Padang Besar (15 minutes with commuter): RM3.20

Padang Besar-Hatyai (1-hour train journey) : RM8

Hatyai-Bangkok (16-hour 3rd class train journey): RM45

Bangkok-Nong Khai (10-hour sleeper train journey): RM 124

Nong Khai-Thanaleng (15-minute train) : RM3

Thanaleng-Vientiane (Minivan) : RM50

Vientiane-Luang Prabang (2-hour train ride): RM76

Luang Prabang-Boten (2-hour 30 minutes train ride): RM38

Boten-Immigration (Minivan): RM11

Immigration-Mohan (Bus): RM3

Mohan-Kunming (6-hour train ride): RM175

Syaufiq only had to pay RM536 for his journey. Even though it will take longer than normal, that fee is reasonable given that you are travelling from Malaysia to China. Syauqi claims that every ticket was purchased in person at the respective rail stations.

"The ticket from Bangkok to Nongkhai was bought online. The prices were also paid in respective currencies but I converted the amount to MYR for the convenience of the readers", Syauqi said.

" I'm not the 1st one to do this. A lot of people had done this before me", he added.

Syauqi stated that he was prompted to share his story because, who knows, maybe it might encourage seasoned tourists to give it a try.
