A tragic incident unfolded in the Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, when a man fatally stabbed his wife after she refused his request for a hug. The shocking event occurred last Wednesday evening around 7 PM local time in Dusun Wesawak, Iingei Barat Preparatory Village, Tanimbar Selatan District.
According to AKP Handry Dwi Azhari, the Head of the Tanimbar Islands Criminal Investigation Division, the suspect has been apprehended and is in police custody. "Currently, the suspect has been arrested by the Tanimbar Islands police force. He will face charges accordingly," AKP Handry told reporters on Saturday.
The incident reportedly began when the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, attempted to hug his wife. When she resisted, the situation escalated. "The refusal led the suspect to grab a machete and stab the victim multiple times, including on the shoulder," AKP Handry explained.
Despite her efforts to escape, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.
The suspect now faces legal proceedings and could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted.
