An unusual scene unfolded at the Elmina exit of the Guthrie Corridor Expressway recently, transforming the area into a bustling wet market. This happened after a lorry transporting fresh seafood overturned, scattering its load of cuttlefish all over the roadside.
The incident was captured on video by TikTok user @__aimaan, and the footage quickly went viral, amassing over 1.4 million views and more than 44,600 likes within just 17 hours of being posted.
The video shows the roadside covered with cuttlefish, creating a surprising spectacle near the ditch. The overturned lorry, responsible for the spill, is visible in the background. The footage also captures a crowd of people frantically collecting the cuttlefish, armed with plastic bags, cooler boxes, and various containers to store the fresh seafood.
On the opposite side of the expressway, a large number of motorcycles and cars were parked, likely belonging to the eager Malaysians gathering the cuttlefish. As a result, traffic congestion developed around the accident site, with the left lane being closed off to facilitate the impromptu clean-up operation.
The scene of people enthusiastically picking up cuttlefish from the roadside was both unexpected and entertaining. While it showcased the community's quick thinking and opportunism, it also underscored potential safety concerns arising from such incidents.
