Anytime we hear news of a new animation, we're sat.
Based on recent announcements on socials, a new Netflix-original animation is coming in 2026, and it'll be about Cinderella's evil stepsisters.
A royal ball, an evil step-family, a glass slipper, a fairy godmother and happily ever after--that's the Cinderella story we all grew up with.
Well, Netflix is changing it up (done a little once with Cinderella III: A Twist In Time), by depicting the stepsisters in a more relatable light.
The new spin, will be from directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa (co-director of Raya and the Last Dragon), while featuring the voices of Ali Wong (Beef) and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once) in the title roles.
The Plot
When misunderstood Lilith (Ali Wong) is blamed for hijacking the Royal Ball with a stolen magic wand, she accidentally turns her sister Margot (Hsu) into a frog and allows the kingdom to fall into the hands of a prince-obsessed mean girl.
Now Lilith must team up with Cinderella (and a surprisingly dreamy troll) to save the kingdom, repair the fractured fairy tale, and prove that even so-called villains deserve a shot at happily ever after.
Ultimately though, the story is about different sisters, just trying to fit in where they may. Then, along the way, they begin to realize that they're more alike than they think.
Steps comes to Netflix in 2026!
