While such marathons are typically filled with young runners and seasoned athletes, this year's event stood out when a 91-year-old participant, affectionately known as Uncle Ong, joined the race.
It was reported that Uncle Ong took part in the 10-kilometer (km) run, with a cut-off time of two hours. To the amazement of many, he not only completed the race but did so entirely on his own effort.
What made his achievement even more impressive was the fact that he completed the run in just 1 hour and 46 minutes, well within the time limit. In the viral clip, Uncle Ong could be seen beaming with pride and flashing a cheerful peace sign as he crossed the finish line.
But his determination doesn't stop there. It was revealed that he already plans to participate in another upcoming running event in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.
The comments section on social media was filled with admiration and praise for Uncle Ong's stamina and dedication. Many expressed their amazement at his strength, while some even admitted feeling a little embarrassed for not being as active as him at a much younger age.
One of the PJ Half Marathon 2025 participants also shared his personal experience of running alongside Uncle Ong.
"I joined the same category as this uncle. At the 5km mark, he was still behind me. But around 7-8km, he overtook me. He wasn't running fast, but he was consistently power-walking," the participant said.
"He managed to reach the finish line more than two minutes earlier than me. This uncle is amazing. Hopefully, if we live long lives and reach his age, we will still be as healthy as he is."
Uncle Ong's inspiring achievement is a reminder that age is just a number when it comes to determination, perseverance, and the spirit to keep moving forward. His story has not only warmed hearts but also motivated many to stay active and live a healthier lifestyle.
