At just 16 years old, Yang was forced to leave school due to her family's financial struggles. Instead of continuing her education, she stepped into the workforce early, taking on whatever jobs she could to help make ends meet. A year later, at 17, she joined Haidilao then a modest Sichuan eatery with little indication it would one day become a global name.
Her early days were anything but glamorous. Yang worked long hours handling basic tasks like cleaning, serving customers, and even polishing shoes. But those experiences quietly shaped her discipline and Zhang Yong founder, extended support to her during a difficult time. That act of kindness left a lasting impression, strengthening her loyalty to the company and setting the foundation for her future.
By the age of 21, Yang had already stepped into leadership, spearheading Haidilao's first expansion beyond Sichuan to Xian. While managing daily operations, she dedicated her nights to self-education, teaching herself the fundamentals of business. Her leadership was tested in high-pressure situations including one moment when she reportedly stood her ground against more than 60 troublemakers to protect her staff, demonstrating remarkable courage and responsibility.
As Haidilao began expanding internationally, Yang became a key figure in its global growth. She played a crucial role in launching the brand's first overseas outlet in Singapore, immersing herself in understanding new markets, customer preferences, and operational strategies.
Her rise reached a milestone in 2022 when she was appointed CEO, taking charge during one of the company's most challenging periods.
