Malaysia's Favorite Dish

Malay food are very unique. It has a very strong, spicy, aromatic, combining the rich taste of many herbs and spices. Malaysia being a multi-culture so together with Chinese and Indian food, it continues to attract visitors from outside of the country. Malaysians love having gathering event so it is a common thing to see all variety type of food such as beef rending or ayam masak marah. Fun fact is that all this food is eaten by hand, not implements are needed.

1. Popiah

It’s rolls of shredded turnip, jicama and other crisp veggies along with perhaps peanuts or egg or tofu and it’s all wrapped in a thin pliant wheat crepe.

2. Otak – Otak

Otak-Otak directly translates to ‘brains’ but don’t get it wrong, it sounds better than you think. The fish paste mixture of spices and diced onions loosely wrapped in banana leaf and barbecued over charcoal.

3. Roti John

It’s a delicious type of sandwiches made with grilled minced mean and egg in the middle of slim bread.

4. Apam Balik

You haven't truly experienced Malaysian food until you thrill your taste buds with this sweet treat. A pancake-style snack wedded with the compact package of an omelet, apam balik is stuffed with more than a sufficient amount of sugar, peanuts and the occasional sprinkle of corn -- it's a dish that's constantly being reinvented.

5. Nasi Kerabu

Now this might look a little strange to some eyes and a curiosity to some. People are so used to white coloured rice well now a favourite Kelantanese dish served a blue rice that makes individuals from other country wonder its nature. Nasi Kerabu is made from telang flowers which are crushed and mixed into flour. The dish is topped with bean sprouts and fried coconuts then drenched in spicy budu, a fermented fish sauce.

6. Roti Jala

http://image.goody25.com/images/catalog/27562/20180602_15279185806561.jpg

It’s a net bread, funny as it is. It gets its name from the net-like formation that’s created by making zigzagging lines with flour and coconut milk on a large skillet. Then after it’s done it is folded up like a crepe and served with chicken curry.

7. Hainanese Chicken Rice

It’s a delicious signature dish from Malaysia originating from Hainan. Its boiled chicken in stock and served with cool rise.

8. Nasi Kandar

http://image.goody25.com/images/catalog/27562/20180602_15279186594321.jpg

Nasi kandar is essentially rice served with your choice of toppings, which commonly include curry, fish, egg and okra. Everything is laid out buffet style, though you can also order a la carte. Found all over Malaysia, nasi kandar eateries are extremely popular, most open 24 hours and run by ethnic Indian Muslims.

9. Sambal udang

http://image.goody25.com/images/catalog/27562/20180602_152791755842915.jpg

I love this dish in that it proves how compelling the most basic Malaysian flavors can be. Sambal is that blend of chilies, the shrimp paste belacan, and Calamansi lime that's served with just about every dish and on just about every table; here, it's quickly stir-fried with shrimp to impart all of those flavors. Fresh shrimp are pleasantly cooling against the spicy sambal—which just makes me go back for more sambal, of course. You'll also see plenty of other things sambal-ed: squid, sting ray

10. Goreng pisang

http://image.goody25.com/images/catalog/27562/20180602_15279175576875.jpg

The popular Malay snack of goreng pisang (banana fritters) is one of those dishes that has variations in banana-growing countries around the world. The deep-frying helps caramelize the natural sugars in the bananas, making them even sweeter than they were to begin with. Some of Malaysia's Chinese versions have unusually delicate and puffy batter
