A mother from Penang is facing a dilemma after her 8-year-old daughter came home from school with a substantial sum of money: RM1,550 to be exact. The young girl, who is in Standard 2 this year, typically receives RM50 per week for school-related expenses, including lunch money.

The unusual turn of events unfolded during a shopping trip at Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang. The girl expressed her desire to buy a bag priced at RM899, claiming that all her friends had the same bag. Her mother was initially hesitant due to the high cost but was taken aback when her daughter confidently revealed that she had the money to purchase it, pulling out RM1,550 from her school bag.

Curious about the source of this unexpected windfall, the mother questioned her daughter, who excitedly shared that she had acquired the money through lunchtime gambling sessions with her friends. The girl attends an international school where many of her classmates come from high-income families, often receiving RM100 as their daily allowance.

Below is the Facebook post made by the mother:

Struck with mixed emotions about her daughter's newfound income, the mother took to social media, seeking advice from netizens on how to handle the situation. Responses varied, with some suggesting that the mother should focus on instilling moral values in her child rather than encouraging vices. However, a majority of comments hailed the young girl's skills and suggested that her talent be nurtured and cultivated.

This situation serves as a thought-provoking example of the challenges parents face in guiding their children's financial decisions and choices. What would you do in this situation?
