Syahmi Nabil Danish Askar, 16, and his girlfriend Dayangku Nazarina Awangku Saifuddin, 18, recently talked about their experiences getting married young.
After Dayangku uploaded a TikTok video with images of the couple and their child, their story became viral.
On May 10 of last year, Nabil and Dayangku tied the knot with the blessing of their respective families. Nabil clarified that their early marriage was a result of their love for one another and their desire to give their relationship legal status.
They bonded over their shared love of motorbikes when they first met two years ago at a motor event, and they quickly started dating.
Even though Nabil was only 15 years old when they were married, he was determined to be the one to take charge. His funds from his part-time work as a vehicle repossession agent and at a car wash went toward paying for the wedding.
The wedding was held at the Kampung Seberang residence of Dayangku's family.
In Malaysia, there is still debate surrounding child marriage, with states having strong opinions on the subject.
