A tragic incident in Langkawi has sparked demands for justice as a man, Mohd Hafiz Salleh, was allegedly assaulted by a police officer during detention, leading to his untimely death. Salwana Salleh, the deceased's sibling, took to Facebook on Friday to confirm the demise and express the family's plea for justice.

Mohd Hafiz's body underwent an autopsy at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah before being returned to Langkawi for burial arrangements. Salwana called for authorities to provide an explanation for the incident that transpired at a Langkawi petrol station. A video depicting individuals believed to be police officers engaging in what appears to be an excessive attempt to apprehend Mohd Hafiz has gone viral.

Salwana, in her social media statement, urged prayers for her brother and justice for the deceased. Another Facebook user, Putera Aizo, asserted that Mohd Hafiz succumbed to his injuries on Thursday after spending two days in the ICU at Hospital Sultanah Maliha, Langkawi.

According to Aizo, the incident unfolded during a raid by a team of narcotics crime investigation officers from Langkawi at a petrol station in Ayer Hangat on January 29th. A struggle ensued between the victim and the police, lasting several minutes. Mohd Hafiz suffered severe head and other injuries, resulting in his admission to the ICU in a coma. Sadly, he breathed his last on February 1st after a two-day battle for his life, and he was laid to rest in Kampung Ewa, Langkawi. Al-Fatihah.

No official statement released yet by the authorities as of the time of writing.
