A recent post on TikTok has gone viral after the PETRONAS petrol station at the Kuantan Putri branch in Kuantan shared a heartening scene of locals recycling used cooking oil from their homes.
@petronasbkp Recycle minyak masak boleh kumpul modal balik. Setiap bulan boleh hantar minyak masak terpakai ni dekat Petronas terpilih. Kalau dekat Kuantan boleh singgah ke Petronas Kuantan Putri. Nanti korang bagitahu kawan-kawan sekali ok. #kumpulminyakmasakterpakai #recycleminyakmasak #PetronasKuantanPutri #petronas #abangnaspetronas original sound - PETRONAS KUANTAN PUTRI
The video shows individuals arriving with bottles filled with cooking oil they had been storing over time. At the station, staff members were seen assisting by weighing the oil before offering cash in return, calculated based on the oil's weight and current market price.
"Recycling cooking oil can help you collect capital again. Every month, you can send your used cooking oil to selected PETRONAS stations," the TikTok account handler explained. "If you're in Kuantan, you can stop by PETRONAS Kuantan Putri. Be sure to tell your friends too, okay?"
The initiative sparked a wave of positive responses online. Many users in the comments expressed their eagerness to begin recycling their own used oil, with several inquiring about which other PETRONAS stations offer the same programme.
This move not only promotes sustainability and proper waste management but also provides an incentive for Malaysians to participate in eco-friendly practices while earning a little extra cash on the side.
