Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biopic illustrating the life of the “Mafia Queen of Mumbai", otherwise known as Ganga Harjivandas. From a naive young woman deceived into prostitution by her own suitor to one of the most influential and feared women in the 1960s, Ganga, or Gangubai changed the course of her own tragic life one badass move at a time. 

Alia Bhatt's terrific performance as the titular character and the talented Sanjay Leela Bhansali as the director primarily explain the worldwide phenomenon that this film currently holds, with it being among the Top 10 movies watched in 25 countries all over the world. 

It puts a spotlight on the exploitation of sex workers, feminism and its battle against patriarchal ideals, and many more that brings forth heavy yet necessary discussion on the universal rights of women.
