Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella finally made it to Malaysia today, after earlier had to postpone his first-ever official visit owing to unanticipated events. He was in Kuala Lumpur to preside the Microsoft Build: AI Day.

Prior to the event, Satya and his delegation met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya. During the meeting, they made a number of significant announcements, including Microsoft's largest-ever investment in our nation.

Microsoft CEO says it will invest a record RM10.5 billion in Malaysia.

Microsoft declared in a press statement that it will fund Malaysia's digital transformation with USD 2.2 billion, or roughly RM10.5 billion, over the course of the next four years.

According to the press release, Microsoft has made the greatest investment in Malaysia in its 32-year history.

According to the tech company, the investments would go towards:

1. Constructing AI and cloud infrastructures in Malaysia

2. Establishing chances for an extra 200,000 Malaysians to get AI skills

3. Enhancing its collaboration with the Malaysian government to create a national AI centre of excellence and improve the country's cybersecurity capabilities

4. Assisting in the development of the developer community in Malaysia

Microsoft emphasised that by making this investment, it is demonstrating its dedication to making Malaysia a centre for cloud computing and other cutting-edge technologies, such as generative AI.

According to Microsoft, the investment will help Malaysia's economy expand, resilience, productivity, and competitiveness.

"We are dedicated to assisting Malaysia in its AI revolution and making sure that it helps every Malaysian."

"By utilising the newest technology, Malaysian businesses, communities, and developers will be able to promote inclusive economic growth and innovation throughout the nation thanks to our investments in digital infrastructure and skill development.", asserted Satya

Praising Microsoft's investment, the Prime Minister says it demonstrates Malaysia's political stability.

Anwar praised Microsoft's investment in Malaysia in a Facebook post, writing that Malaysia welcomes the tech giant's choice to make an investment here.

He continued by saying that the investment demonstrates Microsoft's faith in the robust economic foundation, precise and targeted policies, investor friendliness, and political stability of our country.

The investment, the prime minister continued, is consistent with the government's goal of advancing the AI capabilities of our country.
