The Muar district police have opened an investigation into a viral video and images showing a dragon replica featuring the China flag during a procession held in the district yesterday.

Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz confirmed that the event was part of the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Tiong Hua Association in the district.

"The celebration began at 6:10 pm, featuring a procession that included lion dances and a dragon replica, which is claimed to be the longest in Malaysia, passing through several main roads in Muar," he stated in a press release yesterday.

ACP Raiz explained that during police monitoring of the event, it was observed that the dragon replica displayed the Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang, on its right side, while the left side featured the flag of China.

Authorities have since summoned the event organisers and witnesses to provide their statements to assist in the investigation. The case is being probed under multiple laws, including Section 505(B) of the Penal Code, Section 6(2) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, and Section 3(1) of the National Emblems (Control of Display) Act 1949.

ACP Raiz cautioned the public against speculating about the incident while the investigation remains ongoing.

"Any information related to the incident can be reported by contacting the police hotline at 06-9526001," he added.
