A harrowing road accident unfolded on the morning of August 28th, 2023, as a palm oil tanker truck lost control and skidded off the road along the Beluran - Telupid Road, Sandakan, Sabah, resulting in severe injuries to the driver.

According to Beluran District Police Chief, Superintendent Kasim Muda, the victim of the accident is a 53-year-old truck driver who suffered critical injuries. The incident occurred around 7 AM.

The truck was en route from Keningau towards Sandakan when the mishap occurred. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, with initial findings indicating that the tanker loaded with palm oil lost control, veering off the road.

"The driver sustained severe injuries at the scene," Superintendent Kasim Muda stated, highlighting the gravity of the situation. He was stuck underneath the heavy lorry, while onlookers watched helplessly. 

The investigation is being conducted under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as the injuries sustained by the driver are substantial and warrant a comprehensive examination of the incident.
