Fun Fact: Female Frogs Fake Death To Avoid Mating With Unwanted Male Frogs

Turns out, even frogs know how to say no.

A fascinating study by researchers from the Natural History Museum in Berlin has revealed that female European common frogs aren't as passive during mating as once thought. Instead of simply accepting unwanted advances, many actively resist and in surprisingly dramatic ways.

When approached and grabbed by males, a whopping 83% of female frogs attempted to twist their bodies free. Nearly half emitted "release calls," a signal typically used to deter unwanted attention. But the most unexpected tactic? Around 33% of them went completely limp, essentially playing dead to escape.

And believe it or not, it works. Almost half of the females in the study successfully broke free from the males.

It's a striking reminder from nature itself: boundaries exist everywhere and sometimes, even playing dead is a powerful way of saying, "No means no."
