Celebrating CNY With Kawan KG Pastry Spring Roll Pastry

Despite being a must-have for every CNY reunion dinner, some may find it a bit monotonous. To help you spice up your guests' palate while reducing your workload, here are three creative recipes for cooking with spring roll skins: -

#1 - 5-Minutes Quickie: Cheesy Corn Roll

Simple ingredients, but super delicious and very quick to make.

  

Serve: 5

Ingredients: 

5 x Kawan KG Pastry Spring Roll Pastry

- Frozen corn

- 100g x Mozzarella Cheese

- Water

- Cooking oil


Steps:

1. Defrost the corn and spring roll pastry.

2. Roll out one sheet of spring roll pastry on your tabletop.

3. Place the corn and mozzarella cheese on top of the spring roll pastry. 

4. Roll up the spring roll pastry and make sure all the fillings are properly wrapped. Seal the corner with a bit of water.

5. Heat the oil to 180 degrees and slowly fry to a light golden brown colour before removing it from the oil.

  


#2 - Everyone’s Favourite: Mala Shrimp Roll

One of the easiest ways to make shrimp roll but with a slight twist. 

  

Serve: 8 - 12


Ingredients:

300g x White Shrimp

- 3 g x Salt

- 3 g x Black Pepper

- 1 tbsp x Mala Powder

- 1 tsp x Soy Sauce

- 2 tbsp x Corn Starch 

Kawan KG Pastry Spring Roll Pastry (According to the number of shrimp)

- Seaweed (According to the number of shrimp)


Steps: 

1. Deshell the shrimp, leaving the tail on.

2. In a bowl, mix the shrimp with salt, black pepper, mala powder, soy sauce, and cornstarch to season it.

3. Cut the spring roll pastry and seaweed in half. Place the cut seaweed onto the cut spring roll pastry. Put the shrimp at one end, making sure the tail of the shrimp is outside of the spring roll pastry, and fold in the excess pastry on top before rolling it up.

4. Heat the oil and fry the rolls to a light golden brown colour before removing them from the oil.


#3 - Desert time: Fish-shaped Red Bean Pastry

Super easy and fun to eat and make. 

  

Serve: 3 - 4


Ingredients: 

- 2 x Kawan KG Pastry Spring Roll Pastry

- 50g x Red Bean Paste

- 1 x Egg yolk


Steps:

1. Cut a fish shape on both spring roll pastries (without the “bones”).

2. Spread the red bean paste on one of the spring roll pastries. Then, place the other spring roll pastry on top.

3. Using a knife, carve the ”bones“ and twist them. You may add the eye and tail.

4. Brush the egg yolk on the pastry.

5. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and bake it for 15 minutes. Alternatively, fry it in an air fryer at 170 degrees Celsius for 12 minutes.
