Man in Kuching Loses RM11,350 After Falling Victim To A Taylor Swift Ticket Scam On Online Platform

In a recent announcement, Commissioner of Police Sarawak, Datuk Mohd. Azman Ahmad Sapri, revealed an unfortunate incident involving a man in his 50s who fell victim to a ticket scam on an online platform. The victim, enticed by an advertisement for Taylor Swift concert tickets, expressed interest in purchasing three tickets for a total price of RM11,530. However, after making the payment through three separate transactions to the provided bank account, the victim was unable to contact the seller. Realizing the deception, the victim promptly lodged a police report, prompting further investigation.

On July 6th, the unsuspecting victim came across an advertisement on an online platform offering tickets to a Taylor Swift concert. Eager to attend the event, the man expressed his interest in purchasing three tickets, which amounted to RM11,530. Trusting the seller, the victim proceeded to make the payment through three separate transactions at a bank located in Kuching.

After completing the payment transactions, the victim was shocked to discover that all attempts to contact the seller were futile. The suspect seemed to have disappeared, leaving the victim without the tickets he had eagerly anticipated. Recognizing the fraudulent nature of the transaction, the victim decided to take immediate action.


Realizing that he had fallen prey to a scam, the victim wasted no time and lodged a police report. By doing so, the victim hopes that appropriate measures will be taken to address the issue and prevent others from falling victim to similar scams in the future.


Upon receiving the report, Commissioner Azman Ahmad Sapri assured the public that the police force would conduct a thorough investigation into the ticket scam. They aim to identify the suspect and bring them to justice, ensuring that such deceptive practices are curbed. The police force in Sarawak is committed to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and urges individuals to exercise caution when making online transactions.


In light of this incident, authorities advise the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution when engaging in online transactions, especially for high-demand events like concerts. It is essential to verify the credibility of the sellers and to conduct transactions through secure platforms. Additionally, individuals are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
