Living room is where we meet the visitors. And the decor of the living room represents the taste and lifestyle of the owner. Therefore, a well designed plant decor has shown to the other that we are the person full of passion toward our daily life. Besides that, the living room is also a space for us to relax and for family members to enjoy the bonding times! We spent such long hours in the living room. So, we should spend a little bit of time beautifying the living room to brighten up the spaces! And the easiest way to beautify the living room is to insert some greenery to your living room. However, there are some rules that need to be taken note, If we want to bring indoor plants into the living room.

Direction of the window

If your house is facing north or south and your windows facing east or west that's the perfect position for placing indoor plants. That means your indoor plant could be exposed to the natural sunlight for several hours during the morning or in the late afternoon. Therefore, a wide range of indoor plants could be chosen as plants decor in the living room without worry about the sunlight receiving problems. On the contrary, if your living room cannot receive any of the natural sunlight, we could only choose full shade plants. And we have to move the indoor plants for exposure to natural sunlight occasionally to keep it growing lively. To avoid the hassle of moving in and out of the plants, we should reduce the number of indoor plants in the living place for the convenience of maintaining the indoor plants.

Light Intensity of the living room

Besides the direction of the window, the other factors that may affect the sunlight exposure to the living room too. Therefore, check the light intensity first before we decide what kind of plants could be placed in the desirable place for placing indoor plants. For example, if your living room is full of windows and full of natural indirect sunlight. You may choose semi-shaded indoor plants like asparagus fern species, Ficus species, Syngonium species, Tradescantia species, Pilei species, Dieffenbachia species.

However, if the living room lacks windows and natural sunlight exposure, then full shade plants are more suitable to be placed. The examples of indoor plants which could adapt to extreme low sunlight are sansevieria, zz plant, pothos, epipremnum, callisia species, spathiphyllum, Aglaonema, Monstera, ferns species, peperomia species etc.

Decide the Types of Plant Fit your Decor style

Minimalist? industrial? contemporary styles? Different decor styles may need to be decorated by different types of indoor plants. If your home belongs to the minimalist styles, choose one piece only of indoor plants and make it as a focal point. If your living room is prone to rustic styles, keep the indoor plants growing as its original shade without changing its natural pattern. For example, if you place ficus benjamina in your living room, do not try to prune its crown like a topiary. Let it grow naturally and prune its brown leaves only. If your living room is designed in a contemporary style, you may make the indoor plant arrangement in groups and the design principle of repetition could be adopted.

Decide the materials of your pots

In general white and black colour pots in any materials could suit most of the contemporary decor style. And that is a more safe way to avoid mistakes in different design styles. However, if you want your indoor plants decor more fit to your home decor style you may change the pots and planter to different materials. If your decor style is industrial style, you may change your pot to metal bucket to make the plant's decor more compatible to the overall home style. If your design is prone to rustic styles, terracotta pots may be used to show the original form of the materials!
