FAM President: Redesigning Olympic Attire Pointless Unless We Secure Gold Medal Win

Following a wave of criticism regarding Malaysia's official Olympic attire, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has decided to heed the public's feedback and implement a newly improved design. While this move has brought a sense of relief to many Malaysians, one vocal critic couldn't resist sharing his perspective on the redesign.

"It's pointless if the team doesn't bring home the gold medal," he remarked, encapsulating a sentiment that echoes among a portion of the populace.

According to Sinar Harian, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, the Chef de Mission, elaborated on the rationale behind the new design. The main theme centers on the use of gold instead of the previously used orange, symbolizing the national contingent's aspiration to secure medals at the prestigious global event.

Hamidin explained that OCM has agreed with Yonex, the official attire manufacturer, to switch to gold because were aiming to win gold medals. That's the theme, and Yonex thinks gold pairs nicely with black. Despite the aesthetic appeal, Hamidin underscored that the true measure of success lies in the athletes' performance rather than their attire.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the placement of the Malaysian flag on the attire, Hamidin clarified that the emblem in question is actually the official OCM logo, not the national flag. Orange, gold, black, and blue are all acceptable colors. This is the logo of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, not the Malaysian flag, so there is no issue, he stated.

He also mentioned that most of the athletes competing in the 2024 Olympic Games have expressed their approval of the new design. With just a month left until the Paris 2024 Olympics officially commence on July 26, Hamidin emphasized the importance of continued support from the public for the national contingent.

As Malaysia prepares for the upcoming Olympics, the focus remains on achieving excellence on the world stage. While the attire's design may spark debate, it is ultimately the athletes' dedication and performance that will capture the pride and attention of the nation.
