Parking woes continue to frustrate many drivers in Malaysia, and one recurring issue that has been making the rounds on social media is the unethical act of reserving parking spots. It's a situation that can infuriate even the calmest driverespecially after spending a long time circling for an available space.

A recent viral video has reignited public frustration after a man was caught on dashcam reserving a parking spot by sitting on a plastic chair. The incident took place at Pantai Purnama, where the man was seen occupying the parking bay while waiting for his family vehicle to arrive.

His reason? The car was parked far away, and the spot would supposedly make it easier to load items. Unsurprisingly, this explanation didn't sit well with netizens, who blasted the man for his inconsiderate and unlawful behavior.

According to the driver who shared the dashcam footage, they were about to take the spot when the man and his family swooped in to claim it, citing convenience.

"I had been looking for parking. Just as a car was about to exit, I wanted to enter the spot when this family started reserving it. Their reason was that their car was far, and this spot made it easier to load things," the driver wrote.

What many don't realize is that reserving parking spaces by placing objects like chairs, cones, flower pots, or even physically standing in the bay is not just unethical, it's illegal.

Under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987, such actions are considered a punishable offense. Individuals found guilty can be fined up to RM2,000 or face up to six months in jail for their first offense. Repeat offenders may face harsher penalties of up to RM4,000 in fines or a maximum of 12 months in jail, as outlined under Section 119 of the same Act.

This incident serves as a reminder that reserving public parking spaces is not only inconsiderate but also against the law. Drivers are urged to be mindful and respectful of others, especially in high-traffic areas.
