Authorities are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty after three cats were found dead with severe injuries at a student residence in Setapak. The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has sparked outrage among animal lovers and welfare groups.
According to NST, Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail confirmed in a statement today that a report has been lodged regarding the incident.
"The incident is believed to have occurred on November 17, when a student informed the security guard about the discovery of three dead cats with bloodied head injuries on the stairs of the residence," said Lazim.
The case has been classified under Section 428 of the Penal Code, which pertains to committing mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming, or rendering animals useless.
An animal welfare group highlighted the incident on social media, claiming that a witness reported seeing the cats with stab wounds to their heads between 5 pm and 6 pm on November 18. By the time the bodies were discovered, the blood had already dried, suggesting the killings might have occurred hours earlier.
The group has urged authorities to treat the case with urgency and ensure justice is served, citing the increasing number of animal abuse cases that often go unresolved.
