Who would have thought that ais kacang, a dessert usually associated with Malaysia's sweltering weather, would capture the hearts of people thousands of miles away?
For Malaysians, ais kacang, also known as ABC, is often regarded as a humble treat, easily found at mamak stalls or roadside vendors. With its colorful mix of shaved ice, sweet syrup, red beans, corn, cendol, and jelly, it's a refreshing favorite on hot days.
But for one man, the taste of ais kacang left such an unforgettable impression that it inspired him to bring the dessert to his own community abroad.
In a video shared by TikTok user @wawawandering__, a woman in Stockholm, Sweden, stumbled upon a surprising sight: a man on a bicycle, selling ais kacang.
According to her, the man had fallen in love with the dessert so much that he decided to start selling it during the summer. To make his venture authentic, he even purchased a shaved ice machine directly from Malaysia.
"Summer in Scandinavia is not complete without this rainbow shaved ice with sweet syrup, corn, red beans, and cendol. From KL streets to Swedish summer vibes, ais kacang is the new chill star," she wrote in her post.
What began as a simple street dessert in Malaysia is now making waves far from home, proving that the joy of ais kacang knows no borders.
