David Hekili Kenui Bell, who recently appeared in Disney's live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, has died at the age of 57.
His passing was confirmed by his sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, in a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday. She remembered him as a "sweet, generous, talented" soul who gave unconditional love to those around him. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Bell, credited as David H. K. Bell in the film, had a deep love for acting and Hawaiian culture. His sister highlighted his passion for performance, storytelling, and his unique ability to blend English, Indigenous knowledge, and local Pidgin dialect.
Just weeks before his passing, Bell had shared his audition video and behind-the-scenes moments from the set of Lilo & Stitch, which debuted in cinemas last month.
Bell made his screen debut in Hawaii Five-0 (2014) and later appeared in Magnum P.I.. He had recently completed work on The Wrecking Crew, an upcoming action-comedy starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.
To honour his memory, Bell's family celebrated with shave ice, a nod to a scene from Lilo & Stitch, and one of their last shared moments together.
