The newest Superman has been all the rave since it hit the big screens, and as it should!
David Corenswet slayed in James Gunn's rendition of the hit movie, and after being sat, here are some easter eggs we discovered in relation to DCU and the metahumanverse.
Check them out!
1. Metahuman history
The opening 'dialogue' sets up a long legacy of heroes, suggesting characters like Wonder Woman, the Amazons, and the Justice Society of America were active long before Superman.
2. Justice Society of America mural
Seen inside the Justice Gang's HQ (Hall of Justice), it features Wildcat, Spectre, Sandman, Jay Garrick (Flash), Silent Knight, Black Pirate and Atomic Knight. This is the first superhero team in comic book history (debuted in 1940).
3. The Hall of Justice
4. Krypto the Superdog
Based on Gunn's real-life dog, Ozu. The dog first appeared in Adventure Comics #210 (1955). This represents Superman's connection to Kryptonian legacy and companionship.
5. Superman's Robots
Inspired by All-Star Superman and Silver Age comics. These robots are part of Superman's Fortress of Solitude, which itself is modeled after the 1978 film version 2.
6. Angela Spica AKA The Engineer
A member of The Authority, introduced as Luthor's enforcer. First appeared in The Authority #1 (1999). Signals the inclusion of anti-heroes and morally complex metahumans in the DCU.
7. DC Universe Brands
8. Previous Superman References
Superman breaking chains in the DC Studios logo: Taken from the back cover of Superman #1 (1939)
Boravia and Jarhanpur: Fictional countries from DC Comics, Boravia Superman #2 (1939), Jarhanpur JLA #62
Fortress of Solitude: Modeled after the crystalized version from Superman, The Movie (1978)
