Malaysia's food scene is legendary — but finding the real good stuff, the kind your local auntie swears by, can feel like a treasure hunt. Grab's latest move might just change that.
In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VMY2026), Grab has launched Rakan Grab Jelajah Malaysia, a campaign putting local food, local people, and local culture front and centre.

The campaign kicked off on 19 June with an exclusive media screening attended by Tourism Malaysia chairman YBhg. Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Grab Malaysia Senior Director Rashid Shukor, and a lineup of creators bringing Malaysia's flavours to life — on screen and in the app.

The food guide built by Malaysians, for everyone
Think of GrabFood 5-Star Eats as a food guide written by the people who actually eat there. It's Grab's curated directory of top-rated restaurants, heritage eateries, and local food joints — rated by millions of everyday Malaysians nationwide. No paid placements, no influencer deals. Just real reviews from real diners. Tourism Malaysia has officially endorsed the guide, making it a solid resource not only for locals, but also for international visitors who want to eat like they actually live here and to avoid tourists' traps!
The restaurants you need to know
The Rakan Grab Jelajah Malaysia series on KS Lagi — hosted by Shahril Hamdan — spotlights some standout 5-Star Eats merchants across the country: Village Park Restaurant and Hameediyah Restaurant (Jalan Bukit Bintang) in KL, Restoran Mat Binjai (Jalan Sultan Sulaiman), Borenos Fried Chicken in Asia City Sabah, and A1 Chicken Rice at Lintas Plaza. These aren't just popular spots — they're the kind of places that carry decades of history in every plate.
The creators behind the campaign
Grab tapped two local talents to bring this campaign to life.
Shahril Hamdan hosts a three-part travel series across Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, and Sabah, exploring culture, community, and of course, food.

Meanwhile, VFX creator Sofyank produced a CGI travel video “Video Kembara Malaysia” that blends jaw-dropping visual effects with real Malaysian landscapes and local flavours — honestly, it's unlike anything you've seen in a travel video before.

Your Grab driver might also be your best tour guide
Here's a detail that deserves more attention: selected Grab driver-partners attended Kursus Mesra, a hospitality training programme by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), designed to help frontliners give tourists a genuinely warm experience in Malaysia. So the next time your driver starts recommending a hidden char kuey teow spot, just know — they've been trained for exactly that moment.

Travelling to Malaysia? There's a pass for that
International visitors can also grab the Visit Malaysia 2026 Travel Pass directly in the Grab app, which unlocks exclusive promos on GrabCar rides and GrabFood orders throughout their trip.
Whether you're a local looking to rediscover your own backyard or a tourist navigating Malaysia for the first time, the GrabFood 5-Star Eats guide is worth a look. Open the Grab app and start exploring — the best makan spots are already waiting.
