A distressing incident unfolded in Sungai Petani as a heart attack claimed the life of Chandran Subramaniam, a roti canai seller, sparking accusations of hospital negligence. His son, Sathia Chandran, 29, expressed deep anguish, stating that his father might have survived had the hospital not ignored their repeated pleas for over five critical hours.
Speaking to FMT, Sathia lamented the agonizing moments leading up to his father's tragic demise. Chandran arrived at the hospital in excruciating pain, clutching his chest and screaming, yet the response from medical staff fell short of urgency. Despite his visible distress, the initial diagnosis merely attributed his condition to gastric issues, with little to no alleviation of his suffering.
Repeated attempts by Sathia to seek aid were met with dismissals, including being told to respect the queue as there were allegedly 17 people ahead. Even after persistent pleas, nurses informed him that doctors were occupied, leaving Chandran's distress unattended.
An escalating sense of desperation led Sathia to barge into a consultation room, only to find medical personnel engrossed in their conversation. His concerns were met with rebuke, adding to the family's anguish.
It wasn't until around 5 AM that Chandran was finally rushed to the red zone, an alarmingly delayed response to his deteriorating condition. An hour later, Sathia was informed that his father's heart had stopped, and resuscitation efforts were underway. Tragically, Chandran was pronounced dead at 6:31 AM.
The devastating loss has left a profound impact on the family, including Chandran's grieving wife and five children, aged 12 to 29. While three children reside with relatives in the Klang Valley, Sathia and his youngest sister remain in Sungai Petani.

Seeking justice for his father, Sathia, a lorry driver, has taken legal action through lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind. They have forwarded a demand letter to the health ministry, urging an immediate investigation by an independent panel.
