Signs That You Are Too Nice to People

There’s nothing wrong with being nice. The world will be a better place if everyone were nice. But there’s such a thing as being too nice. Being nice is good but being too nice, that’s just not good.

When you are too nice, you keep doing selfless things, you are afraid to say no and you are afraid of letting people down, it can leave you feeling burnt out and sometimes even angry. It can lead to a deep resentment and effect your mental health negatively.

If you start noticing that you relate to most of the signs below, then you are too nice and you need to stop before you mess up your mental health real bad!

1. You keep apologizing

One of the biggest signs that you are too nice is if you say “sorry” one too many times! You apologise for everything and anything, sometimes you’re even sorry for something that isn’t your fault or something that is out of your control.

Okay, apologizing 24/7 isn’t necessary at all! If you keep apologizing all the time, then people will just assume that you’re to blame for everything. Stop this habit by trying to go an entire day without apologizing.

2. You regret saying yes all the time

Sometimes, when your friends ask you to do something, so you say yes of course, no problem at all. But after that, you completely regret your decision, and you start feeling resentful.

You always agree to do things for people even if it means that it will trouble you, even if you don’t really have enough time or energy to do it. Try saying no more often, only say yes when you know you’re free and when the person who asks for a favour really means someone to you.

3. You are a people pleaser

You always think that if I am nice and useful to people, then they will like me. You feel that people are only friends with you because you provide a certain benefit to them, and you try your best to prove to them that you are worth being friends with.

Most of the time you go out of your way to make other happy, thinking that this will make them like you more. Maybe pause before deciding to do something for someone and think what would happen if I said no? Honetly, nothing bad will happen but you will definitely feel a lot better.

4. People think it’s okay to be rude to you

When you’re too nice to people, they start to think that they can get away with anything when it comes to you. They think its okay to make use of you and be rude to you because “Oh, she’s so nice, so who cares?”.

They take advantage of your kindness and don’t care how their words will impact you. You become the rubbish bin where people just throw out their bad moods, mean comments and judgemental remarks. Which is why, you should stand up for yourself and don’t let people think they can treat you badly just because you’re nice.

5. You hide how you actually feel

Most of the time when an overly nice person starts feeling negative emotions like anger, you tend to hide those feeling and instead portray the opposite emotion like being extra nice. It’s a defence mechanism that you use to avoid ruffling any feathers.

Pent up negative emotions aren’t good for your mental health. There’s nothing wrong with being honest about how you’re feeling.
