Controversy Erupts As Malaysian Mother Accuses Foreigners Of Attempted Kidnapping, Allows 1-Year-Old To Navigate Broken Escalator

Just a few days ago, two foreign workers were arrested for allegedly attempting to kidnap a one-year-old child at a shop in Klang.

While behind the child and her mother on an escalator in the store, one of the foreign workers appears to have picked up the small girl, causing her mother to panic and grab her child from him. The couple then allegedly attempted to run, but were apprehended by members of the public and turned over to police.

In a press conference, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that it was all a misunderstanding since the foreign workers from Nepal were concerned about the child's safety, prompting one of them to take him up. He disclosed that the mother had let the toddler wander up a broken escalator.

"We determined that this is not an abduction or attempted kidnapping case. What happened was that I saw the CCTV video from two different perspectives, which showed the incident. When they (the Nepalese guys) arrived at the supermarket where the 1-year-old child was with her mother, the escalator leading up to the floor above was broken."

"At the same time, these two Nepalese men, who are legally working in Malaysia, wanted to go up to the next floor. They both work at a local company and frequently shop at the store for supplies. So, when they spotted the youngster straining to walk up (the ruined escalator), they attempted to assist her (by scooping her up) without informing her mother," he added.

Despite promptly delivering the girl to her mother upon noticing her terror, the mother mistook it for an attempted kidnapping, which resulted in the men's imprisonment.

The police also discovered that no preparations had been made for an abduction attempt, as there were no vehicles waiting, and the Nepalese guys made no move to flee.

"Maybe their habit in their home country is to pick up children without permission from their parents," he said.

Malaysians are now denouncing the mother for her conduct in allowing the youngster to walk on a damaged escalator and accusing the two foreign males of attempting to steal her daughter.

They further stated that this is a perfect example of why people should not help others while focusing on their own business.
