There was a point in time when we allowed the million rules and regulations which came with relationships.

But as we move forward toward being a less judgmental people, there are ample of the things we should unlearn and relearn in general.

Life isn't just black or white, and thus our emotions should be the last thing regulated as such.

Check out the 9 things to keep in mind when it comes to love, relationships and bonds with another.

1. You don't have to be fully healed to get into a relationship

Most times, love doesn't find you at your best, it finds you in your mess. It's okay to let yourself fall in love, even if you carry extremely heavy baggage. The right person would help you with the load.

2. A quality relationship isn't determined by longevity

Relationships end when they are meant to end. Every relationship has meaning, a purpose, a reason. Don't be afraid of jumping just because you may get hurt.

You don't have a say whether you get hurt in this world, but you do get a say in who hurts you. Just make the choices which you know are worth the pain.

3. The goal is what you say a relationship is

Don't conform to what society believes a relationship is (meet > spark > date > marriage > kids). A relationship is whatever structure that works best for you.

4. Sex can just be sex and it can be more

Sex doesn't determine intimacy or the building of a bond. But at the same time, it can also play a part in it. It all depends on what you're in search of, and what you want.

5. It's okay to go to bed without solving things

Sometimes all you need is to sleep things over so that you can better assess the situation the next day. You don't have to not be angry to go to bed.

6. You're not entitled or deserving of love

Love takes work and effort. You can't just sit and expect it to happen to you because you deserve it. It takes two to tango, so if you want love, learn how to dance.

7. Love is not gender specific

Love is love. You can love whomever and neither person in a relationship should be determined by gender identities or stereotypes. It should be freely given and accepted.

8. Cheating is a choice

Cheating isn't a mistake, it is a decision. It is wrong and shouldn't be normalized. But it also doesn't shape who a person is. A person isn't their choices, they can be more, they can be less and they can change.

Once a cheater, isn't always a cheater.

9. You can talk to your ex

There is always room to rebuild a healthier relationship with your ex. It could be acquaintances or friends. So long as there are necessary boundaries for both, anything is possible.

Relationships have evolved so much more than what they were in the past, and thus the last thing they should be, is a set of rules.
