Now, after settling down, she has taken her freedom story to BBC.

Based on reports, via the interview, Sajat explained that she fled Malaysia, after she was assaulted by JAIS (religious) officers in the country. She recalled being beaten and roughed up for reasons unnecessary, all because she was a transwoman.

"I was treated badly, hit, pushed and cuffed. Whatever my offences were, they were matters to be peacefully discussed and not resorted to violence. Maybe it was because they saw me as a transwoman, so they assumed it didn't matter", she said.

She also told the network that she had always been one to respect her religion, especially when she went for prayers or pilgrimages, adding that no person would ask to be born trans.

Besides that, she also spoke about being separated from her adopted children, who she has not seen in almost 9 months.

"As a mother apart from her children, I am quite affected, because we have never spent so much of time away from each other. But now, I have been living away from them for almost 9 months, unable to contact or speak to them", she said.

Concluding her interview, she did however note that she would not be returning to Malaysia and happens to be very happy with her newfound freedom.
