China has started to perform anal swab tests on their citizens instead of the usual throat and nose swabs for Covid-19 detection, claiming that it is more "effective".
According to a senior doctor from Beijing's You'an Hospital, the anal swabs method "can increase the detection rate of infected people" as traces of the virus stay longer in the anus than in the respiratory tract. (source: Chanel News Asia)
It seems like China is desperate to avoid a second wave of Covid-19 as the Lunar New Year is approaching. Reportedly, over 3 billion trips are made annually during the festival period pre-pandemic. (source: Washington Post)
So, imagine how the covid cases would most definitely be doubled or tripled if a similar case is to happen this year.
