Aren't free flights a dream? An American man pretended to be a flight attendant and successfully flew 34 times in 6 years!
Alexander Charles Bothwell, a Florida man, pretended to be a flight attendant and successfully flew 34 times from 2018 to 2024. He also booked more than 120 flights in total, all over the United States!
According to CBS News, the U.S. Department of Justice said that Alexander Charles Bothwell forged more than 30 fake airline employee IDs and pretended to be an employee of at least seven airlines. He used the airline industry's exclusive booking system to enter fake employee numbers and employment information to defraud free tickets.
What's even more outrageous is that not only did he successfully board the plane, he also illegally broke into the airport's restricted area and even got through the identity verification system!
He has now been charged with multiple crimes including "wire fraud" and "illegal entry into an airport control area", and the jury has found him guilty.
He is currently waiting for the verdict on August 25, 2025. If he is sentenced to the heaviest punishment, he may have to serve 30 years in prison!
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said that although he obtained his boarding pass through fraud, he passed security checks every time and did not pose a threat to other passengers for the time being.
TSA also issued a statement saying that the successful prosecution was due to their cooperation with law enforcement agencies, and emphasized: "We will continue to keep a close eye on all those who attempt to undermine aviation security!"
