A few days ago, a ride-hailing driver in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah was shocked when he was issued a fine by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for "inappropriate dress" for wearing a collarless shirt while working.
He later shared this experience on social media, which immediately attracted the attention of netizens.
According to Majoriti, the male driver said that this was the first time he had been issued a ticket by JPJ in more than 30 years since he obtained his driver's license.
"Even though it was the first violation, there was no warning, no room for negotiation. No need to say anything, just sign."
He said that he initially thought he had violated traffic rules, but he didn't expect it was because the clothes he was wearing had no collar.
"It turns out it's because the shirt has no collar. Now I know being an e-hailing driver is not easy, and wearing a collarless shirt is also illegal."
He pointed out that he had violated Rule 15(b) of the Public Service Vehicle Licensing Rules 1959, which states that "the person should not be dressed in an appropriate and neat manner."
