Malaysia Takes Home The First-Ever Silver Medal In Esports At Asian Games 2023

By JustineG

Malaysia etched its name into the annals of Asian Games history when their Arena of Valor squad secured second place.

The team, consisting of Lai Chia Chien, Nicholas Ng Khai Shuan, Ong Jun Yang, Eng Jun Hao, Yong Zhan Quan, and Chong Han Hui, succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against the home team, China, at the Hangzhou Esports Centre.

Malaysia, having received a direct entry to the knockout stage as the Southeast Asian champions of the 2022 AESF Road to Asian Games, had previously triumphed over Hong Kong and Vietnam on their path to the final.

Aside from Arena of Valor, Malaysia also boasts esports representatives in League of Legends, Dota 2, and Street Fighter V.

Umar Hasbullah, Muhammad Ridwan Sahrom, and Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis secured the Bronze medal in the Men's team sprint cycling event. Additionally, another Bronze was earned in cycling by Nurul Aliana Syafika Azizan, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, and Anis Amira Rosidi in the women's category!
