We often notice a generational gap between Gen-z's and older generations especially at work.
This has cause quite the rift and debate, often resulting in Gen-z's being labelled entitled and spoiled.
A HR TikTok page shared some of the reasons why they could come off as such, or the reasons behind their actions/reactions and we can't help but agree.
Check them out.
1. They were raised to speak up
Older generations were told to keep their heads down and just be grateful. Gen-z's grew up in a time of mental health and self-worth. Expressing themselves were often encouraged.
So, when they ask questions, demand work-life balance or go against certain requests, they're not being defiant, they're being confident.
2. They know their facts
Gen-z's know salary standards, labor laws and employee rights, so they're not afraid to use that to their advantage. It may look demanding, but to them it's just standing up for what's right.
3. They're not about the hustle culture
Past generations equate long hours to loyalty, whereas Gen-z's value efficiency and impact.
Once they're done what they're supposed to do, they won't pretend to be busy, as they don't see a need for it--what's required of them is completed.
4. They want purpose
Older workers stay at a place for stability. Gen-Z's want meaning, alignment with values, growth. Their priorities are not the same.
5. They don't condone burnout
Being overworked and getting laid off may have been everything they saw and swore to never be growing up. Thus, they do not give their all to a job. Their energy, their time and their peace takes the top spot.
Just different generations, bridging a generational gap, and "evolution".
