Petaling Jaya recently played host to a celebration that felt warm familiar and deeply rooted in cultural pride. From 24 to 26 October, JAMPJ became the gathering point for artists musicians and communities for the Sepayung Borneo Sunset Vibes International Music Festival 2025.
The festival carried a simple message One Rhythm One Soul One Borneo. It was less about putting on a show and more about recognizing the shared spirit that connects Sabah Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia. The event was organized by Persatuan Pentas Anak Seni Malaysia with Breaking Music Sdn Bhd and positioned itself as a national platform to highlight Bornean creative talent.

The atmosphere blended traditional and contemporary elements in a way that felt seamless. The sound of the sape moved through crowds at sunset while modern Malaysian pop and indie acts filled the night. Performances, art showcases and community based activities created a space where heritage and current youth culture coexisted comfortably.
What made this festival notable was not only the performances but the impact beyond the stage. Delegates and visitors from across ASEAN attended, turning the three day event into a ground for cultural exchange and new creative partnerships. The festival also supported local vendors artisans and young entrepreneurs which aligns with Malaysia MADANI priorities of building inclusive and community centered progress.
Plans for Sepayung Borneo 2026 are already in progress and are expected to broaden the festival with more international collaborations, industry forums and tourism driven programmes. The goal is clear to strengthen Malaysias presence as a cultural and creative hub within ASEAN.
