A recent incident outside the convocation hall of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) became the centre of attention when a newly graduated medical student stepped in without hesitation to save a life.
Muhammad Husni Abu Bakar, a Medical Doctor graduate from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), acted swiftly when an elderly woman suddenly collapsed. He had just completed his convocation ceremony when he noticed the incident and immediately rushed to help.
In an official statement, UPM shared that Muhammad Husni quickly assessed the victim using the basic emergency ABC principles: airway, breathing, and circulation. His timely and calm intervention helped ease the woman's breathing while he secured the surrounding area to ensure her safety. The promptness and confidence he displayed drew admiration from the public who witnessed the scene.
The woman was later brought to the hospital by her family for further treatment. During the emergency, Muhammad Husni was said to have checked her pulse, level of responsiveness, and breathing condition before she was taken away. His swift action reflected the depth of knowledge and clinical skills he had gained throughout his medical training.
Muhammad Husni later advised the public to remain calm when faced with emergency situations. He encouraged individuals to perform basic checks and, when possible, seek assistance from trained medical professionals. His reminder serves as an important call for awareness and preparedness among society.
It was revealed that Muhammad Husni is currently undergoing medical graduate training at Seri Manjung Hospital, Perak. His passion for medicine began as early as Form Three and grew stronger after he lost his father to COVID-19, an experience that further shaped his desire to help others.
"His story on convocation day not only highlighted his calmness and compassion as a medical graduate, but also reflected the spirit of a young doctor who wants to make a difference in the lives of others," UPM wrote in the statement.
Muhammad Husni's actions that day became a true reflection of dedication, empathy, and readiness, qualities that define a doctor committed to saving lives, even outside the walls of a hospital.
