According to the Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shahurinain Jais, in the incident which took place at about 7.15 AM, the 37-year-old victim was suspected to have been beaten with a cane by three men who all emerged from a Proton Iswara.

He said the incident was recorded by a closed-circuit camera (CCTV) belonging to the occupants of one of the houses at the scene. Prior to the incident, the victim was alleged to have had a fight with three men and after he was beaten to a pulp, all the suspects fled and left the victim at the scene.

"Two of the suspects, aged 31 and 32, were eventually arrested at a house in Taman Kota Jaya, Kota Tinggi at about 3.15 PM this afternoon," Shahurinain explained.  "Meanwhile, two other suspects aged 34 and 43 are currently wanted, and the search is conducted with the help of the Marine Police Force (PPM) which is patrolling the island around Mersing," he said in a press conference at the Mersing District Headquarters (IPD) here today.

The motive for the incident is believed to be due to an argument between the suspects and the victim regarding drugs, while the victim's cause of death is believed to be due to severe injuries to the neck, although no murder weapon was found at the crime scene.

The victim has just completed his three-month prison sentence, had 11 previous criminal records, particularly eight drug-related cases and three criminal cases. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
