If you think of food just as a way to continue living, then you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Food is more than just something to keep you alive, food is an art, a combination of flavours that create something bigger and better, it’s creativity. 

A dish is created by combining ingredients that traditionally pair well together. Like, you know when you want to make some stir fried vege, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce and some sesame pairs well together. 

However, there are some combinations that you know for a fact will not taste good but when you try it, it blows your mind! Here are some of the examples of the weirdest food combinations that might actually taste good – for some people:

1. Watermelon + Mustard

Early this month, yet another TikTok food trend surfaced where people just squeezed out some mustard on a slice of watermelon and it blew my mind. Some people even went as far to say that the combo wasn’t complete, and salt needed to be added! 

Apparently, this combo actually tastes good for some people because sweet things sometimes taste good with acidic things. 

2. Durian + Rice + Milo

Since it is durian season, I might as well throw in some durian combos here. Okay, for this combo I only have one question WHYYYY??? 

I just don’t understand how the texture of the durian will go well with the rice. If it is sticky rice, then understandable la, but normal rice and with milo?? Maybe I don’t understand the beauty of this combination – why don’t you try it for yourself. 

3. Super Ring + Milk

Okay so I say some American doing this combo with Cheetos, then I wondered what’s the Malaysian version of Cheetos – the answer: Super Ring. Hear me out before you stop reading. It is like cereal. Like a delicious creamy cheesy cereal. Try it out, you might just like it!

4. Oreo + Orange Juice

Are you a fan of orange flavoured chocolate? I remember when I was young my dad used to buy me some chocolate called Zip which has a orange chocolate flavour. It was my favourite! I think that if you enjoyed that, you’ll enjoy this too. All you have to do is dip an Oreo in some delicious Twister orange juice or whatever brand of orang juice you buy. 

5. Cheese + Peanut Butter + Tomato Sauce Sandwich

Someone actually gave this a 3.5/5 rating so this one might actually be good. The cheese and tomato sauce combo sounds good, like cheese and tomato sauce on a burger but then the peanut butter makes me a little skeptical. Do peanuts even go well with cheese or tamato? 

6. Maggi Curry + Milo

This is another WTF combo for me. Why would anyone think that this is good? But I guess what I might find revolting, you might actually find yummy. After cooking your Maggi just add like two teaspoon or tablespoons of milo and give it a good mix. Now enjoy your spicy sweet chocolaty Maggi! 

7. Mamee Monster + Chocolate Milkshake

Apparently, there’s a café in KL that served this as their limited edition drinks. It was a gigantic chocolate milkshake topped with melted chocolate and like two pieces of Mamee monster noodles. Some people love it because the saltiness and crunchiness of the Mamee pairs well with the sweetness and the softness of the milkshake.
