You thought you were just buying some fruit, but you ended up being a victim of an online scam...

According to Sin Chew Daily, a 61-year-old retired female teacher from Terengganu originally just wanted to buy the seasonal Harumanis mangoes (sweet mangoes) online, but she ended up being defrauded and her bank account lost more than RM67,000 overnight!

The incident happened on May 20, 2025. The retired teacher who lived in Wakaf Tengah, Kuala Terengganu, saw an advertisement on Facebook that expensive but popular mangoes were on sale, and he decided to place an order.

After she contacted the person who claimed to be the seller, the other party sent her an "order confirmation link."

So she followed the instructions and clicked on the link, and sent back a set of ID codes generated by the system, thinking it was just a normal order procedure. Little did she know that this was actually a trap set by the scammers!

The next day (May 21, 2025), when she logged into her bank account, she found that several suspicious transfers had already been completed, totaling RM67,573.63 was transferred away! She immediately contacted the bank to freeze her account to prevent further loss of funds.

The Terengganu police confirmed the case and said they are investigating under Section 420 of the Penal Code (fraud). The police also took this opportunity to remind the public:

"Don't click on unknown links, especially those involving payment or personal information! Online scammers often pretend to be sellers of popular products to lure you into their trap!"
