In an attempt to promote pickleball and cultivate new players, Selangor intends to implement the sport in schools throughout the state the next.
"The structured implementation of this new sport will be part of the state's commitment to enhance the development of sports and encourage more youth participations in healthy activities," said State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
Teachers will receive coaching technique training as part of the curriculum, and pupils will learn the fundamentals of the game.
Since pickleball isn't currently on the Malaysian Schools Sports Council's list, the state also intends to collaborate with the Youth and Sports Ministry to have it officially recognised.
“I have discussed the matter with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, so that the ministry can help facilitate the process of including pickleball in the MSSM syllabus”, he said.
Meanwhile, Yeoh said that several conditions must be met before a sport can be introduced at the school level.
Prior to the sport's introduction in schools, KBS stated that the Malaysian Pickleball Association still needed to finish important preparations.
Selangor is planning to introduce pickleball in schools across the state next year as part of efforts to promote the sport and develop new talent.
