Malaysian Couple Purchases RM700K 2-Storey Home By Saving 20% Of Their Income

Owning a home is a goal many aspire to, but achieving it takes careful planning and financial discipline. For Mohd Sollehi Arshad, 31, and his wife, Munirah Mahmud, 30, the key to realizing their dream was saving 20% of their income every month. Their dedication paid off when they recently purchased a double-storey terrace house in Mambau, Negeri Sembilan, worth almost RM700,000.

According to Harian Metro, the couple, who had been married for five years, weren't actively searching for a home when they came across a property exhibition while shopping for household items. The houses design and proximity to their parents home immediately caught their attention, and they quickly saw it as the perfect fit.

"We weren't seriously looking for a house at the time, said Mohd Sollehi. But once we saw the location and the layout, we felt it was ideal for us."

Their decision to buy was prompted by the modern design and convenient location of the house. With the help of a salesperson who guided them through the process, the couple found the home-buying journey smoother than expected. However, they credited their financial readiness for making everything possible.

"We've been setting aside at least 20% of our income each month, and that helped us not only with the down payment but also gave the bank confidence in our ability to handle the loan," explained Mohd Sollehi.

Beyond just saving for the house, the couple also budgeted for post-purchase expenses like renovations and interior design. They made sure to keep all additional costs within their financial limits.

"We've set aside money for renovations, but were careful to stick to our budget," he added.

One feature that particularly attracted the couple to the house was its spacious design, with an open-plan living room and kitchen, perfect for family gatherings. Though they don't have children yet, they appreciated the extra room for future plans and hosting large family events.

"The open-concept design is great for when our family comes over, and it gives us space to grow," said Mohd Sollehi.

Although the area lacks commercial developments at the moment, the couple feels reassured by future plans for schools, medical centers, and shopping complexes. The homes location near a highway also adds to its appeal, making travel more convenient.

Ultimately, Mohd Sollehi and Munirah's disciplined approach to saving and careful financial management made their dream of owning a home come true. Their story shows how dedication and smart money management can help turn even the biggest dreams into reality.
