As updated yesterday (15/3/2020), there was a large number of confirmed Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Malaysia, bringing the number of infected cases up to 428 cases.
In Penang, with the 7 confirmed cases, Penangites are starting to worry and are working on all sorts of precautions to protect themselves. At this critical time being, a disturbing incident that happened in Idaman Melur, Sungai Ara came to light after Penang Kini posted 41-seconds CCTV footage today, showing an uncle spat on the elevator's buttons.
According to SinChew Daily, this incident happened at 11.45 am on March 15. The featured uncle is well-known for his unethical behavior. He was the owner of one of the units on the eighth floor which he has rented to tenants. It is explained in the report that he was exiting the building after collected his rent money. It came to a shock that he suddenly spat his phlegm on the elevator's buttons.
The whole incident was captured on the CCTV. Knowing that his unethical action was made public, the uncle surrendered himself at Bayan Lepas Police Station. As COVID-19 is a huge concern to the community now, the authorities had sent him to Penang General Hospital to get tested for the virus.
The post has governed over 2,000 reactions and over 1,000 comments. It was also mentioned in the report that there was a lady entering the elevator after the uncle went out of it. However, the footage did not show whether the lady touches the buttons that have phlegm or not. Hopefully, the lady would saw this news and go to the hospital to test for COVID-19, just in case.
Everyone needs to really play their parts in tackling the COVID-19. It is not the government's absolute duty to protect all of us, we, need to protect ourselves and others!
